Steinberg Bankruptcy Failed to Slow Claims of Cash Crisis

Gene Steinberg reported a monthly income of $2,790.76 on a 2016 bankruptcy petition. The Paracast and Tech Night Owl host spent now well documented years seeking cash gifts via email and other media, while consistently framing common living expenses as emergencies and claiming himself virtually destitute. The bankruptcy file is public record and arose through an ongoing open source investigation of Steinberg's financial claims conducted by a growing number of interested parties.

Offered an opportunity to comment for this blog post, Steinberg replied in a July 18 email that he resents the probe into public records about him and other family members. "I demand that it stop," he added. Steinberg suggested he might ask for a full financial disclosure from me, seemingly oblivious to the difference in the circumstances - sincerely or otherwise.

Reported liabilities, income, and expenses

Blog commenters and social media participants who reviewed the file took issue with such circumstances as a nearly $700 per month car payment. Also questioned was what seemed to be Steinberg's practice of moving into costlier residences following evictions, as pieced together through various email solicitations and public records. More issues also arose, such as whether he reports income from his constant solicitations.

My email to Steinberg particularly sought comment on how one's judgment might reasonably be called into question if they have some $2800 per month income yet are consistently unable to take care of them self. This would be the case regardless of reported expenses, as it would seem they would reconsider choices of expenses, particularly when asking others to financially compensate for those choices.

"My financial struggles are none of your business," Steinberg wrote, adding that he demands others and I cease trolling him and posting what he termed false information.

In addition to questioning Steinberg's financial choices, it should also be considered that bankruptcy dissolves debt. That is largely the point in filing. One who files bankruptcy typically ceases paying creditors immediately. In spite of this being the case, a review of Steinberg's cash soliciting history shows he continued calls for financial gifts prior to, during, and after the filing.

Steinberg monthly expenses per 2016 bankruptcy
The bankruptcy petition was filed on or about May 9, 2016. It appears during this point in time, mid 2016, Steinberg launched a gofundme page.

More can be observed from an April 7, 2016, message to his e-list titled, "A Warning from the Power Company." Steinberg tells readers of pending utility and rent payments, requesting their financial help.

July 2, 2016, Steinberg told email recipients "the landlord is torturing us" in a message titled, "Time is Short!". He wrote of eviction and an inability to pay expected deposits required for a new residence he was apparently seeking. He also claimed he was doing everything he could to cut expenses. Such emails were typical and ongoing.

It is difficult to understand how the statements from 2016 emails could be accurate when considered in the context of bankruptcy, in which one often stops paying loans and all unnecessary debt. That is particularly the case when considering the debt relief was combined with some $2800 per month in income. It is unfortunate that reaching out to Gene Steinberg for comment only resulted in rhetoric about trolls.

Readers may choose to ask themselves if Paracast and its associated platforms are reliable sources of information. They may also decide, when supplied with adequate knowledge of the history of the host's actions, if such activities align with those they desire to fund.

  2. I have to laugh. Years ago, I signed up for a Paracast Community Forum, supplying my e-mail address in the process. I made one short post asking a question about the source of a claim made by another poster.

Then Forum administrator, Chris O'Brien, responded saying that I am a troll. After that, I could no longer sign onto the Forum. Apparently, my account was wiped out (including my e-mail address). So I've never received an e-mail solicitation from Steinberg.

I didn't realize it at the time, but O'Brien apparently did me an enormous favor when he decided I wasn't fit material for the Paracast Forums.

So, a very belated "Thanks, Chris". You did me a solid.

  3. I just want to note four expenses here:

    1) $675 in monthly vehicle payments for him to drive a new/late model car

    2) $400 in transportation costs for someone who doesn't actually drive to an employer

    3) $225 in cable, phone, and internet cost - for him to have a cable TV package, internet, and most likely a phone contract for a late model iPhone that he's admitted to owning (probably purchased shortly before or after this bankruptcy filing):
    https://www.technightowl.com/2018/06/the-first-ios-12-public-beta-but-will-you-need-those-new-features/

    4) $200 a month in 'Entertainment and recreation" costs

In other words, around $1500 a month that Gene has solicited donations from have been to pay for him being able to drive a new car, so he can go eat out each night, pay for his cable and internet bill, as well as his new iPhone.

And that's not counting whatever his entertainment each month is.

  6. Gene admit it. Your a liar, con man, and hustler. You have absolutely no shame. You lied about your circumstances and stole from hundreds of people over 12 years. You even stole from victims of the Hurricanes and your own son Grayson. You conned 4 landlords out of money and lived rent free. You lied about your vehicles. You lied about Uber. You lied about medical issues and Barbara and even Teddy Bear. You lie about everything. This is the legacy you’ve left behind and will always be remembered for. A loser. Disappear. Go away and do the world a favor. No one care about you or wants to hear your bloviating. You are done. Your “career” is over. Call the UFO Lyft to beam you up and leave the planet. 7. And from his own words in his email solicitations, Gene has hanged himself. He presented personal and revealing details to garner sympathy and con people but instead raised further questions and doubts as to the accuracy of his claims. The truth has been revealed because of this blog and others, putting an end to Gene’s trail of thievery and financial destruction. The appropriate government agencies now have the public proof they need to move forward and someday provide restitution to Gene’s many victims.

  9. Bankruptcy fraud is a Federal offense and crime. If you have any information to share, you can report Gene Steinberg here to authorities for further investigation:

    https://www.justice.gov/ust/report-suspected-bankruptcy-fraud

Anyone who donated to Gene before or around the time of his filings, has a case. Gene never disclosed this “income” which is a clear violation of the bankruptcy process. According to public record, Gene is also misrepresenting his other income and expenses which warrants further inquiry. (We know because we have proof on this blog and in Gene’s own email newsletters.)

You can help bring justice to bear and end Gene’s reign of self-entitlement and financial fraud.

  10. Jack, thank you for pulling this together and laying it all out like this. Sadly I'm not sure it will change much. I think the people who believe Gene already are likely to keep believing him. But at least now yet more information is out there, available to anyone willing to open their eyes to it.

I think the the history and character of the begging, which you've laid out extensively and this bankruptcy all raise questions with no flattering answers. The involvement with Numis Gems I think is also damning and undermines the Steinberg preferred narrative.

But then I consider Gene's following includes a large cohort who already maintain beliefs in defiance or absence of evidence and find myself saying... "Forget it Jake, it's Chinatown." But Jack I applaud you doing this work and not just giving in to that sentiment.

  11. $2800 a month isn't much income--$34800 annualIy, plus a small amount from the shows. I doubt the emails were pulling much money by 2016. He had a lot of debt from credit cards and loans; how he got them is puzzling. His monthly expenses (not including debt repayments) substantially exceeded his income. I can't see how his begging can have made up the shortfall. Such savings as he might have, I think, comes from not paying his bills. By now he must have to pay huge deposits for rent and utilities.

Gene seems to have no intention to live within his means. I think there's something pathological about it, though most others seem to disagree. Lazy? Sure. Irresponsible? Yes. Massive feeling of entitlement? Certainly. But judging from the record, aside from watching science-fiction TV, he doesn't seem to be having a fun time.

    1. He seems to get something out of doing his podcasts, something that keeps him producing the shows each week, even when he's on the verge of living out of his car.

He keeps referring to his circumstances as a nightmare though, and his latest email referenced the stress on his wife and himself. I would imagine their lifestyle to be quite stressful. He only seems to know how to make things worse for himself.

Then they all ask me for money because I'm successful and own my own business. Ummm, no. Don't buy a new car you can't afford and then expect others to help you pay for it. Don't move into a rental house you can't afford and then call me because you can't make rent. Sorry to digress from the topic of Gene here, but it's relevant to this situation too. Same thing--different person.

  12. Some observations:

Let us not forget that ASIDE from him using the Paracast/Tech NightOwl mailing lists, as sucker lists, he has set up PUBLIC donation campaigns, under false premises, as evidenced by his own contradictory statements and court records (the most recent being his BANKRUPTCY) as well as PUBLICLY asking for money via web-sites and social media.

His demands to to stop probing PUBLIC records is farcical.

Another item I find amusing is his methodology of demonizing (like he does with his landlords demanding their rent) those who have rightfully called him out for his crimes.

He specifically, and deliberately doesn't name those that are calling him on the carpet. Labeling them trolls rather then letting his victims (and potential victims) know that many are respected Ufologists, like Jack Brewer, along with both of his previous co-hosts is part and parcel of his scam/con, i.e., playing the victim.

Finally, contrary to what was/is stated above, Steinberg won't stop until he has been prosecuted. His victims should file complaints with the proper authorites which have been named with links attached in the comment section in Jack's "UPDATE" article.

  13. Maybe Gene is a drunk or has a gambling or drug problem?! That could explain the large amount of money needed and why donations and his $2700 month in income wasn’t enough to afford a $700 month trailer. The math doesn’t make sense. He pissed the money away somewhere. I’d start calling the local bars and massage parlors to see if this character was a frequent patron. Probably didn’t even leave a tip. Once a scammer always a scammer. Why Barbara puts up with this lying, cheating loser is beyond comprehension. He told the whole world about her prolapsed anus for gods sake!!!! Now everyone knows she can’t take a normal shit. How embarrassing and despicable. Gene Steinberg has no shame.

      Delete
    3. He has mentioned his back problems many times which is why he’s known as Pretzel Gene. I wouldn’t be surprised if opioids or even street heroin is involved. No one is immune to the scourge of addiction. We already know Gene has serious OCD so a drug addiction fueling his need for cash (from his listeners) wouldn’t be such a stretch.

One or another or both of those habits could I think explain a lot of his apparent behavior.

    6. It occurred to me it could be interesting to compare his voice and performance on an episode of the Tech Night Owl to that of the Paracast. He's accused of letting his co-host(s) do all the heavy lifting on the Paracast, and his voice there certainly sounds to me like he's been drinking. He's on his own on the Tech Night Owl, does he make more of an effort there, sound any more engaged?

    1. At this point it’s pathological. Gene has a mental sickness and unhinged compulsion to his begging. He pops a boner (better than Viagra) and gets an endorphin rush and cheap thrill every time the PayPal deposit email hits. It’s been 12 years of this. Notice every time he was evicted or has his car repossessed, his bills got bigger and he found something more expensive. Where did that money come from? YOU!!!! By his own admission on his bankruptcy forms his income is $2,700 a month. More than enough to live on. Yet he cried poverty and guilted people into donating to fund his lavish lifestyle. That’s a scam. And fraud. Plain and simple. And I bet he was even too stingy to put that PayPal boner to good use. His stories are just as limp and flaccid. And totally unsatisfying.

  23. Scheme Gene Steinberg could easily get a JOB. The economy is the best it’s ever been. Yet he doesn’t because he has wage garnishments on him from past lawsuits. Any money he earns would go to pay back money he owes. He’s a scammer until the end. And won’t pay. That’s why he begs for money. He thinks the money is untraceable and can’t be garnished, however once the bankruptcy court investigates they’ll see he had income all along. They need only request the records from PayPal, gofundme, Facebook and Gene’s bank accounts to uncover the truth. Gene hid money and income sources. That is a federal offense and felony. Gene’s trail of crime will soon be over. We aren’t going away Gene. Every begging scamming email you send, only makes us stronger! You WILL be defeated and end up in prison. Replies
    1. As someone who's pulled himself out of a ton of debt, most of the wage garnishment stuff is a bullshit excuse either way. There are laws to protect a certain amount of income - and when he declared bankruptcy initially, all of his debts were discharged and he could have worked.

      He STILL can work:

      Arizona Wage Garnishment Limitations
Of nonexempt disposable earnings, creditors can only take the lesser of the following:
      - The amount of your non-exempt weekly earnings that exceeds 30 times the federal minimum wage.
      - 25 percent of your non-exempt weekly earnings.

In other words, he could get a part time job at Wal-Mart and not have a cent garnished. He could even withhold more in tax, and not be garnished.

It's a ploy, he just doesn't work to work, he thinks podcasting, ride sharing, and writing an amateur sci-fi novel a decade plus ago is a job.

      Delete
    2. A good question. Off the top of my head, I would guess one of these to be the case, or close to it:

      1. Gene set up the Facebook profile for her as a means of publicizing the fundraiser, and added some Friends among people he knows or was FB Friends with, since publicizing is useless without people to see it.

      2. Gene helped her out by setting up the fundraiser and posted about it on her already existing FB account; he also added some more Friends for her at the same time.

      3. Gene shared her FB fundraiser and some of his FB friends who saw the appeal FB-friended Barbara.

      4. Helene added some people that FB recommends as a Friend; presumably she was FB friends with Gene at one point and saw recommendations among his FB Friends, or got them recommended via Barbara's FB. Or vice versa - some who are or were friends with Gene could have had FB recommend friends to them and that somehow led to Barbara and / or Helene. We can't really know who 'friended' who when.

      5. Gene and Barbara actually know some of the same people, including some into UFOs; Gene has been around 'UFOlogy' a long time and seems to have been actively involved in his sister-in-law's husband's business enterprise. Presumably they all spent time together. And for all we know Helene could have her own interest in UFOs.

I think #5 is the least likely, though remotely possible. More than likely - I think - the presence of these UFO-interested FB friends is a consequence of publicizing / trying to publicize her fundraiser back when, and Gene was likely involved in that.

Gene potentially setting up or helping out with the fundraiser in no way definitively indicates he was planning to pocket all the funds or exploit the situation; he could have been trying to help her raise money in the wake of her spouse's death. Her spouse who, despite all the money making opportunities of Numis Gems, apparently left her with a lot of bills. Well, health care does cost a lot in the U.S. and has bankrupted many.

What we can still see of the fundraiser as shared on Helene Beizer's FB page certainly smells of Gene, "Thank you for the kind letters about my situation. If you have any questions about outstanding bills and such, please let me know." If Gene did not write that for her, I'd be amazed.

  36. One poster at AE posted the following conversation with Gene
When gene found out this person was wealthy he said

You told me you are very rich, so this shouldn’t be much of a deal. The $200,000 I gave Stephen through 2004 is, today, worth $267,524.69. If you send me that amount, I’ll be able to supplement my income and have a life for a number of years for myself and Barbara. We won’t have to ask for donations, and I’ll have the resources to deal with the stalkers who are left.

    How about it?

Then I can go to the nursing home when I’m good and ready

I thought his payment towards Numis was 44,000. But here he said he bailed Stephen out to the tune of 200,000.

Has anyone else heard the 200grand figure before, or is his story changing over time

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I had not heard the $200K figure previously, only that Gene allegedly lent his sister-in-law's husband Gene's "life savings" to fund a lawsuit that the guy was involved in, that was expected to end in his favor and lead to Gene being repaid. He has also claimed his son put his college savings into the same fund.

Here is what I recall reading, others please correct me if I am mistaken:

      - Gene has said nothing about the $44K; it appears to be from a personal loan and was exposed as part of the bankruptcy attached to this blog post.

      - There was a $28K judgment against Gene back around 2005 or 2006 I believe, and I think Gene has said that was for part of the money he loaned Stephen Beizer. Meaning Gene apparently borrowed money to put toward the alleged lawsuit no one has been able to find a record of, and that presumably was dropped rather than pressed forward by Stephen's estate.

Quite frankly it's hard for me to imagine Gene ever having had $200,000+ in savings given his public history of financial troubles; it's even harder to imagine him lending that amount to anyone. But this is what he told 'BlackAngus' based on posts at the Alien Expanse forum. (Perhaps he expected a $200,000+ payout that never came? Who knows.)

It's also hard, and sad and awful, to imagine someone loaning $44K+ to Gene. And then Gene turning around and discharging that in personal bankruptcy! But of course, the poor lender was never going to see that money back regardless.

I cannot prove this but I can't escape the feeling there was no lawsuit but rather that Stephen Beizer sold Gene on one of the proven means to improve your bottom line that the Numis Gems website promised, Gene amassed some cash for whatever this was via loans, and it all went south. That's entirely speculative, based on the Gene I know from his online behavior and the publicly available info we've seen on the Steinbergs, Beizers, and Numis Gems. All could be as Gene has said - maybe he loaned $200,000 to a family member for a lawsuit, the money was never recovered, and that ruined Gene financially (and apparently ethically).

    2. You are relying on the notion that anything Steinberg says/said is true. He's a consummate liar, demonstrated by his ever changing stories, attempting to separate people from their hard-earned money. For example, in January of 2010, Steinberg wrote:

"Several years ago, I made a public appeal for donations to help to sister-in-law and her family survive the onslaught of legal harassment from a vengeful woman. While many of you were extremely generous in your assistance, that move cost me two significant writing gigs, as the publishers in question said such an appeal was highly inappropriate. I also lost a few friends in the process for similar reasons.

Although their legal ordeal has persisted all these years, and expected resolutions have been repeatedly dashed, they expect everything to be successfully resolved this year."

      Two things of note here:

1).Court documents recently uncovered show that the "legal harassment" story was hooey, and the case was not civil, but criminal, as Steinberg's brother was being prosecuting for a myriad of crimes, including but not limited to, securities fraud, fraud and theft.

Additionally, corporate documents recently uncovered show that Steinberg was in business with his brother-in-law, in stark contrast to his claims (lies).

2). There wasn't any mention of Steinberg giving up his life savings. This didn't come until years later", in August of 2014, where he wrote:

"As some of you long-time readers know, the first public financial appeals I made years ago were for him, not for me, and I gave him my small retirement savings to help him cope with the problems he encountered at that time. That’s another reason for my current financial situation."

Steinberg's cons have evolved, as he wears one out, he would either modify it, add to or change it.

  38. I assume Gene is being sarcastic in the post above; but still, he decides that if anyone questions him or gives him actual solutions to his problem, that they have to be the ones to fix things for him. What an entitled a**hole. He thinks he's above everyone else, doesn't he?

And over at the Paracast forums, apparently he's instructed his new moderator/shill, J Randall Murphy, to refer to him and the Paracast as one and the same, so any "attacks" are really attacks on the show, ya know? He's even trying to hide inside his show now. Pathetic. But again, we knew that.

He's being VERY quiet lately. He's likely pissing himself every day knowing that everything he does is being scrutinized and made public. He hates that his number of victims is likely lessening and that his criminal history is now out there for scrutiny. If someone still wants to donate to him, at least they are doing it with open eyes.

Whilst it is true he has been evicted, the fact that he is able to move into motels, oftentimes for weeks, proves that he has more than enough money to pay his rent.

He simply refuses to and therefore gets deliberately evicted. The only reason for doing this (I presume) is so that he can create new drama and fodder to continue his e-begging gig.

I think that is his main occupation now (and lazy so and so that he is) - he doesn't even put much time into that.

    1. I believe it is important to make the truth behind Gene's claims available. And yet I have to ask myself: what will it really change?

      Criswell-like, I predict:

Gene will keep begging, and continue to lie in support of getting donations.

Gene will continue to produce his podcasts until he physically, mentally or materially becomes incapable of doing so.

Gene's living situation will remain precarious and the description he gave in the subject for his email today will continue as an apt description of his life: "A miserable day-to-day existence!"

Most people who actually pay attention to the material turned up on Gene will realize giving him money is not a good idea. But some will ignore it and others will prefer to believe what they want to believe and continue to support him in one way or another.

Even some people who pay attention will continue to participate in his podcasts because they believe doing so is in service of their own goals (self-promotion and probably ultimately sales of one kind or another).

The law is not going to go after Gene over tax evasion or bankruptcy fraud. Both are probably true but Gene is a small, miserable, and very likely flat broke fish, who is about to turn 73. Unless there's a great case that he's actively harming others (apart from landlords and witless donors) I don't see them bothering with him.

Gene's major malfunction will never be fully known, but he will be remembered more for being weird, crooked and a paranoid authoritarian than for any contributions he made to anything at all. (Maybe Attack of the Rockoids will continue its footnote in science fiction literature on grounds of sheer awfulness.)

I'm not saying give up and let Gene be Gene, I'm just saying, I am pessimistic anything but real health problems or a natural disaster will change anything about his current dynamic. Perhaps I am just a pessimist but I expect I could tune out now, then check my email again in a year or two and see a fresh email from Gene about how he just needs my help to get his life back, can I help?

I think Biedny and O'Brien have probably not even revealed the half of what they know about this character.

He ripped them off for years by letting them do the actual research and interviewing whilst he sat back and collected all the income from the Paracast.

Not only did they work for free but they also ended up by being smeared by his bizarre behaviour in begging all and sundry for money (whilst as Biedny noted Gene was living the high life beyond his means).

Recently posters at the Alien Expanse forum tried to warn J. Randall Murphy about Gene. I think some people either think Gene is not so bad, that they will get more positive things (sales) out of the association with the Paracast than they will be tainted (I mean, we're already talking about people who are public or even sort of professional about their interest in UFOs), or possibly that they can turn Gene around somehow. J. Randall Murphy for example seemed to think Gene was trying to monetize his podcasts in the wrong way. I'm sure some of these people believe themselves truth seekers, and yet, there they are with Gene.

  48. I think the old fashioned term “grifters” applies to this clan. Unfortunately, he appears small change with a large audience, but the IRS is understaffed and only going after bigger fish than Gene. Bankruptcy Trustees in charge of Chapter 7s probably have no clue as to his means because the Court never found evidence of his game. Grifters fool their attorneys all the time. Once they might get a clue as to the crook/client, attorneys are dealt with severely should they petition to be replaced as counsel. They’re bound by attorney-client privilege too so unless an astute judge or attorney for creditors finds evidence of graft, the perp gets away with his misdeeds ... only to start again and perhaps file bankruptcy again when time permits. A friend I know started receiving new credit card solicitation within 3 months of her final discharge.

Federal Judges would be happy to throw the book at this type of scammer, but my guess would be that evidence would have to be presented in that venue for any meaningful outcome.

Implying otherwise is disingenuous and misleading. Gene makes it sound like they are caring for a teenager or even a toddler. Gene twists words to minimize the impact of facts or inflate sympathy. He thinks that by complaining about the uncomfortable bed in the motel that it’s building his case why you should give him money. He complains about his pretzel back like it’s a badge of honor. And he complains about His chiropractor visits. A luxury many wish they could afford. He also bitches about his streaming plan and internet. Again not a necessity. Many people on fixed incomes have to make do without cable or Netflix. But to Gene why should he pay when ALL OF YOU are footing his bills?! By Gene’s own admission he has $2,700 a month in social security income with Barbara. If they can’t live on that they may have other problems (gambling, drinking ,drugs, eating out every night etc). Many people live full and productive and begging free lives on much less money. Sorry Gene you’re going to have to work like everyone else. You abused us listeners for far too long and it’s over. - Gene will represent things as he feels he must to support the begging. That includes a range of deceptive statements (from hyperbole to flat out lies), attacks on others, and emotional appeals.

The best I can hope for is that the word about Gene gets out there and people realize who and what they are being asked to support and, if they elect to support Gene anyway, at least they made an informed decision.

Not lease cars, rental cars! The family that owned the company I worked for also owned a car rental agency. They rented "company cars" from themselves, no doubt at the full daily rate, for a fat write off at the very profitable outfit I worked for. I heard from my boss that the CFO, who no one liked, was hired for his ability to hide money. He looked, dressed, and acted like a cartoonish used car salesman from some goofy 70s movie. Checked blazer, red polyester pants, white belt, the works. Piece of work, that guy!

  58. I don't disagree with anything posted here today. If I were related to Gene, he would not even get to stay overnight in my house even if he had a nice place with the rent paid up. Just trying to help keep things reasonable. A feeding frenzy wouldn't do any good, and it would probably cause a lot of trouble. Attacking some enemy's family is not cool, even if they are flakes themselves. We need to stick to the high road if we can. At least keep it within sight.

    1. As was mentioned over at AE, this isn't an attack on his family its a fact check on his claims in which he used their names to give weight to his con. Its Genes fault they are involved in this. No one elses.
The two company's owned by them are clearly rebranded versions of Numis gems. Buying and selling precious metals and coins etc. Not honest jobs like office cleaning company's or mobile coffee truck business etc.

It sounds like the classic securities scam all over again. The company holds as an example 10 ounces of physical gold in its safe, and then sells certificates for 20 ounces to investors.
They may be involved in name only, Gene set up the various gofundme pages for the "poor" widow and disabled "child" who just happen to be , when this claim is fact checked, owners of two company's that are almost certainly phoenixed versions of Numis gems, buying and selling bullion.

I think we all know people like this or have family members who are like this. We keep giving them chances but all we end up doing is enabling them in their bad behaviour so the best thing to do is just to cut ties with them.

I can understand why his son and other relatives would not want to get involved.

      >Attacking some enemy's family is not cool, even if they are flakes themselves. We need to stick to the high road if we can.

Agreed. Best to focus on the individual as far as possible since he is the one that we know for sure is grifting. The others may be willing participants or they may be victims themselves like his son. Stick to what is known.

  59. I love how Gene references recent events to justify his plight. His latest email mentions “people living in cars” and he fears this will be his fate. He makes $2,700 in social security payments. If actually did live in his car for a month or went camping then he’d have plenty of money saved up for a deposit on an apartment and rent. Most places in Arizona where he is are only $650 month. There is no excuse for him not finding an apartment. He’s just extremely picky and wants to live in luxury on your dime. Some people could only dream of $2700 month in gauaranteed income. Yet Gene squanders it on eating out, Netflix, fancy car, Starbucks coffee every day and his playtime on the Internet. He expects you to foot the bill for his housing. There are people truly in need and homeless without income or skills and disabled. I’d rather give to them befor I gave a penny to Scheme Gene.

  61. It was posited above:

"If Gene is so bad and everyone knows it apparently, how does the crook get good guests on?"

"MOST" well known guests that appear on either one of Gene's shows are not completely aware of his crimes. Remember Gene has been repeating the same lies for well over a decade. He has a somewhat captive audience with the sucker lists he's created via his two shows, along with two forums (where free speech isn't tolerated) within two web-sites or platforms for his rhetoric. Moreover, O'Brien was a big factor in paving the way for various UFO personalities to come on the Paracast.

Most of these folks that are mildly aware of Steinberg's solicitations for money, just think he's pathetic. They believe the con, that he's indigent, not knowing that he has an income (not counting the con money) of $2800.00 a month (as admitted by him via court papers), and a long-term history of prosecution for various crimes of fraud.

The irony with that group, is that many have researcher after their names, and it boggles the brain that no due diligence is done when it comes to self-aggrandizement, appearing on a stage, radio and or television show.

For the group that is aware of Steinberg's crimes, and ignores it, all for self-aggrandizement and chooses to get in bed with him anyway, then this says a lot about their character, moral make-up or lack thereof.

The bottom line is, no guests, no show, no tool (or weapon) to con people out of money. So the question is, "are guests that know of Steinberg's crimes and go on either show anyway, are they culpable?

This of course is Ufology, where charlatans and researchers often share the same stage; it's one reason Ufology will never be taken seriously. Real fields of research don't allow/tolerate this immoral conduct, much less out right crimes.

Finally, all that said, the tide is turning, thanks to Mr. Brewer, et al, more and more victims of Gene Steinberg have/are learned/learning the truth and the con is getting harder for Steinberg to perpetrate; however, those same victims need to file complaints with the proper authorities, or he'll just find new marks and start all over.

This is a guy who seems to man the Paracast forums day and night in order to ensure that nobody mentions anything about his begging.

He also uses Google alerts so he can see every single thing that anyone says about him.

Add in all the time he spends trying to figure out new avenues for begging and that doesn't leave any time for driving or doing anything else.

Gene can come up with all sorts of excuses for him, (plane ticket, Spanish lessons, green card, passport, et al) but I don't think they wash. Bottom line is - if Grayson really wanted to "save" them he would, one way or another. But Gene knows that he isn't wanted.

At least that's my take. I think he could have gotten a passport years and years ago. Learned Spanish 10 times over by now. Been in Spain with a Green Card and be a productive citizen by now. He doesn't want to, and Grayson knows it.

That would explain Gene’s increasing frequency and appeals for money even thought he has $2,700 month in income (shown on bankruptcy). Plus whatever whatever Barbara kicks in and Gene is able to scrounge from his list. Where is all the money going? It’s gotfa be either drugs or a gambling addiction. Gene could easily live on $2,700 month. Couldn’t you?!!!!

When i asked Gene about Grayson coming home to look after them (because thats how we do it in my family) Gene asked if would be willing to pay Graysons airfare and apartment deposit.

So the answer is a conditional yes, Yes Grayson could come home and look after them, but only if someone else is willing to pay him to do so.

    2. "So the answer is a conditional yes, Yes Grayson could come home and look after them, but only if someone else is willing to pay him to do so."

According to Gene, a person no one in their right mind should take at his word. I would bet that you could send him several thousand dollars for Grayson's plane ticket and apartment deposit, and that would be the end of it. Grayson would no doubt never know you funded his fictional return to the States. I doubt very seriously that he would come back and deal with those crazies even if you paid him a salary to do so. I probably would not, if I were in his situation. His expat status appears to be simple self-preservation, and I don't blame him.

My own parents are still with us, and need help with more and more things, sometimes money. My siblings and I each do our share. We were brought up well, in circumstances that were sometimes very difficult. They never complained. They have earned our help and respect.

      Delete
    3. >Gene asked if would be willing to pay Graysons airfare and apartment deposit.

You need to take everything Gene says very skeptically, Gene has no intention of paying for Grayson to come back. Further even if he did I doubt Grayson would want to, I have strong suspicion he fled the US to get away from his father and families financial impropriety in the first place.

The request for Grayson's airfare and apartment deposit was likely a ploy to get extra money out of you. Had you paid up that money would never have reached Grayson and it would have gone straight into Gene's pocket.

If you had enquired as to why Grayson had not arrived there would of course have been some kind of excuse (a new emergency perhaps that would have explained why Grayson could not have utilised it) but if you asked nothing further it would just disappear as all the rest of the money does.

Gene is not interested in any solutions to his problems that don't involve people sending him money. Indeed the primary problem for Gene seems to be that he always wants more money than he has. He actually seems to have a decent income from SS without his begging but it is not enough for Gene.

As for any of the problems Gene uses to solicit money from his followers - those should also be viewed very skeptically.

It is quite likely that much of the problems are either fabricated or deliberately orchestrated in order to give him a reason to keep requesting more money.

When you are dealing with someone who has lied so much, you are making a serious mistake when you believe even a fragment of what they say.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I don't think Gene was trying to get money out of you for Grayson coming back to the States. I think he was basically saying, "How DARE you ask me any legitimate questions? Unless you are ready to give me money don't you DARE say anything about me!" In other words, he is trying to shut down any conversation by trying to put the burden on you to fix things for him.

He knows Grayson will never return. Grayson knows he will never return. He got married a few years ago and has a family (I assume by seeing some pics he has on his FB page) and home of his own he doesn't want screwed up. (And no, Gene, I don't for one minute believe that despite gainful employment and living in Madrid with his wife that he is dirt poor!) There is no way in hell he would come back to the States and have his entire life and future and that of his wife utterly destroyed.

It is truly sad that Gene has burnt that bridge so badly. I think he has obliterated all ties to family and friends and that is why he lives the way he does. And he continues to alienate people by shutting down any meaningful conversation and just demanding money over and over while making absolutely no changes to his situation to show that it will ever improve.

He is living completely and totally in the life of his own conscious choosing. No amount of money or well-intentioned advice will help him. Until he is "good and ready" (to use his own words) to change, he will not.

Let all landlords beware. Let all people and businesses be on guard against this man who will rape you of all he can and then move on without remorse. He is one cold man.

    IMHO.

  69. If Gene’s relationship with his son is not a wake up call for Gene to change his ways, then nothing is! He’s willing to sacrifice what precious years he has left just to feed his own ego and greed with The Paracast. This is a sad ending for all involved. Gene has no family left and spends his final days living a nomad existence in a dingy hotel room with Barbara and Teddy Bear all for nothing. Sadly, Gene brought this on himself and now must live with the consequences. He wrote his final chapter through his own actions. A legacy of lies which Gene will always be remembered.

When the real fault is staring back at Gene from the mirror. Gene it’s YOU!

He’s lucky he’s not living under a bridge. His ego and sense of entitlement knows no bounds. Enjoy your flea bag motel Gene. This is your sad and pathetic new reality. A day-to-day meaningless existence devoid of any pleasure in life. Have fun!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Gene’s math doesn’t add up. He’s been living in a motel for almost 2 months now. At least $100 a night or more would make that $6,000 total for 60 days. If he has the money to still be there then that means he has the money before. He could have paid his rent bill. But NO! Gene doesn’t want to pay anyone and wants to live for FREE! He had the money all along. It’s YOU who are the sucker. 12 years of begging is mighty profitable. Gene would never have done it this long if it didn’t pay. Why would Gene stop now?! Someone else always coughs up the cash. No one bothers to sift through Gene’s grift. Read this blog and others carefully before donating a dime to this weasel. The proof is well documented.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Ikr? Heaven forbid that motel residents have to clean up after themselves. And slow WiFi? The horror! That beggar certainly does seem to feel that he should indeed be a chooser, but I hope his marks choose to not help him this time. If he can't get his damned act together in 72 years he deserves absolutely no funding from others.

And notice that he has changed absolutely nothing! He has said that he would find a way to stay in the next place, but he won't. He won't because he'll continue to sit on his ass with his radio show "jobs" and think that magically his income will skyrocket. He will not change a thing. Not one single thing.

Any donations will be utterly wasted. Just handing him money will not help him, because he learns nothing. He changes nothing. Barbara's sister keeps them at a distance. Grayson keeps them at a distance. Two previous show hosts keep him at a distance. And he never learns. Of course his new bedmate worships him, so he still is someone's god...but he still wants more and more $ to fund his "existence." People back in times past who were like him simply did not survive. You either took care of yourself and your own affairs or you perished. It was simple. You didn't see lazy and entitled pioneers! Or if you did they were quickly wearing wooden tee shirts.

Which makes me wonder if all of Gene's family was like him. Well, except for Grayson who is a productive citizen in Spain. But the rest? Looking at the Beizer's it seems as if scamming people and gaming the system is the family business.

  74. Creating a false sense of urgency and manufacturing phony deadlines is FRAUD plain and simple. Gene uses pressure tactics and self-imposed crises to shake people down for money. His fate always rests in your hands.

Unfortunately for you Gene, your luck has run out and all your lies have been exposed by this blog and others. You deserve every bit of daily misery you endure. You are a spineless, rotten, arrogant, miserly, cheap, entitled asshole who has stolen his last dime from all of us.

Do you even have any friends left? Or have you burnt too many bridges from your 15 years of begging? Why would anyone want to be associated with you and risk their own reputation.

What a sad, pathetic way to end in Life. Living in a motel with no future, while your legacy and reputation die a little more each day. Pretty soon, no one will even remember you.

No wonder your son Grayson wants absolutely nothing to do with you. He had to leave the country just to get away from your scams! He’ll never admit that, but it’s true. You ruined his credit, you destroyed his life. Obviously, he wants nothing to do with you. Because of what you’ve done, your own son can’t even stand you.

You’re not a father...you’re a FRAUD. And the whole world agrees.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I think PornoBob retired, citing his emotional health. Smart of him; it's not good to keep yourself tangled up with Gene. Hell, Gene's own son fled the county, and his SiL has slammed her nice 3 BR Scottsdale house's door in his face. Oh, come on, Helene, if you combined your household SS with Gene's $2800 or so per month with your nice house you could all be happy; how about it? No? You'd rather see your own sister homeless? Harsh! What's up with that?

In all seriousness, I'm not surprised. She will not let herself get stuck with them. Knowing Gene he'd say their stay would be "temporary" which actually translates to "forever and a day."

Yep; that bridge has definitely been burned.

Seriously, tho, at the end of the day I would really like seeing Gene straighten up and get his stuff together and repair his relationship with his son if it's not too late. Despite all the crap he's pulled I would hate to think that his relationship with his own son is totally beyond repair. That is truly sad. I think Grayson is between a rock and a hard place about their relationship, too. He simply cannot allow his life to be utterly destroyed yet I'm sure he has concern and affection for his parents. It must really be difficult for him to have to live with. I do feel badly for him.

In the end, despite everything, I hope they can maintain some sort of meaningful relationship.

  77. From this biography, Grayson seems to have some ambition (unlike his Dad). Let's hope he's smart enough to stay out of Gene's scams. Grayson knows his Dad has money and obviously isn't too worried about Gene "living in his car". The bankruptcy proved Gene had over $2,700 in income, yet is always crying poverty. Anyone who donates to this human turd, deserves to be ripped-off.

Father and Teenage Son Co-Author Science Fiction Novel

Scottsdale, Arizona, April 12, 2002 -- Today, Making the Impossible, a new production company, in cooperation with Toad Hall Press, announced the release of "Attack of the Rockoids" in a high quality paperback format, with full-color cover. The book is the first in a series of science fiction adventure stories. The novel is co-authored by Gene Steinberg, a well-known technology journalist and his 16-year old son, Grayson.
"Attack of the Rockoids" tells the incredible tale of a man who is haunted by dreams of battles in space and a beautiful, alien woman. The exciting, spell-binding novel takes the hero over 200 years into the future where he finds the woman of his dreams, only to discover she is leading an armada of spaceships on a mission to destroy the Earth.
"My dad and I talked about this novel for two years before we wrote it," said Grayson." We also have a Rockoid theme song that is being written by a well-known composer for use in our series."
To introduce the new series, Gene and Grayson Steinberg have announced a "Name the Spaceship" contest. To enter, all contestants have to do is send an e-mail suggesting a name for the flagship of the alien armada. The winner will not only receive a Sony PlayStation 2 game console, but become an actual character in a forthcoming novel in the series. Other prizes include a Sony 600-CD changer, official Rockoids T-shirts and posters. The special contest page is available at http://www.rockoids.com/contest.html.
The novel is available for order direct from the Rockoids Web site (http://www.rockoids.com/store.html), and will also be offered shortly through book stores and other online retailers, including Amazon Books.
"I was truly amazed at his growth as a writer," commented Gene. "It has helped my son mature as a person and cope better with the difficult teenaged years. I will always treasure the great friendship we have developed from working together."
Gene Steinberg is the well-known author of 30 computer and Internet books, including the hot-selling Sams Teach Yourself the iMac in 24 Hours Fourth Edition (Sams Publishing), and Upgrading and Troubleshooting Your Mac: Mac OS X Edition (Osborne/McGraw-Hill). https://www.keepandshare.com/doc5/23190/gs-bankr-pdf-317k?da=y

If you look at his long list of creditors Gene was basically borrowing money from anywhere and anywhere and totally living way beyond his means. Lots of payday lenders and check cashing joints.

Eugene Steinberg had absolutely no intention of paying anyone back. Even small creditors of $100 or so got swept up in his bankruptcy.

You would think that with all this debt wiped clean that Gene could get his act together and pay his rent on time (since he had no other obligations) but NOPE.

A leopard can’t change its spots. Gene’s not going to change. He’ll be living under a bridge soon but the Paracast show must go on! At whatever price possible.

“And groceries.” — Gene’s famous closing line he likes to use in his emails, for dramatic effect. Like the Steinturd is going to starve to death if you don’t buy him sirloin and lobster.

  89. People on some of the other sites are “upset” that there are “mean” comments on this blog. It is hard to imagine anyone could have an ounce of sympathy for Gene Steinberg. He plays on people’s goodwill and hearts. Sensible good people always want to help someone in need.

However, Scheme Gene Steinberg is not someone in “need”. He refuses to get a paying job and has been begging for about 15 years. He also robbed 4 landlords of their rent income by refusing to pay. Plus robbed hundreds of his listeners of their donation money, which they gave willingly but under Gene’s false pretenses. This man is a thief and a predator. He will stop at nothing to steal your money.

Every time you donate to Scheme Gene you are enabling his behavior to continue. Why should he get up and go to a job when YOU keep paying his bills? We all have to support ourselves. You suffer through your job, why shouldn’t Gene?

If Gene doesn’t want to get a job, why doesn’t he write more books? Why is his last book almost 20 years ago? This is someone who claims to be a technology expert (but can’t figure out how to use Twitter). He obviously supported himself at some point in the past (before the Paracast). If he can write he can hustle and sell books. But Gene is too fucking lazy for even that.

Why should he work? You bleeding hearts and liberal snowflakes want to keep paying for his ass. You can call these comments “mean” all you want, but it’s the TRUTH.

Gene Steinberg stole thousands of dollars from people. He is a fraud. He is a scammer. He is a criminal. And he should be in JAIL. (He won’t have to worry about being “homeless” anymore!)

And anyone who supports Scheme Gene Steinberg or appears on The Paracast is just as guilty as Gene is in perpetuating his crimes. Your hands are just as dirty.

    2. If you were one of Scheme Gene’s many victims you would understand. This man has stolen thousand of dollars from people. It’s only because of this blog that Scheme Gene’s legacy of fraud is coming to an end.

  90. Stop supporting Gene’s habit. He addicted to grift and gets a boner every time you donate. (Works better than Viagra.) This is a sick narcissistic individual with OCD, who is always right and always has to have the last word. His behavior over 12 years proves it.

According to the bankruptcy, Gene gets $2,800 a month in income, he doesn’t need your “charity”. But he needs your money because he gets a cheap thrill out of conning people.

Why else would he continue his daily begging emails in the face of such opposition? It’s because he’s addicted to those PayPal deposit alerts. It may not be gambling, alcohol or drugs, but it’s certainly compulsive behavior.

Gene just can’t help himself. He’s an addict and your gullibility is his crack. And his drug of choice...your sympathy.

  91. Where’s #PornoBob when you need him?! He could have stopped Scheme Gene 10 years ago. Now he’s a whistleblower. How many more victims were defrauded and had their money stolen because of your silence? Sorry It’s too little, too late Bob.

    1. Christopher O’Brien could have stopped Gene but the milk from The Paracon’s teat was too sweet to pass up. He had to suckle. And suckle he did.

  92. The silence of Gene’s past co-hosts and past guests speaks volume. They must approve of his fraud.

    1. David Biedny tried to warn people but Gene put the kabosh on David and harassed him so much that David disappeared. David was a genuine UFO researcher fueld by his own sightings and experiences in Costa Rica as a child. He was the real source of the success behind the show. A genius. No really, a genius. He worked for George Lucas on the movie Hook with Robin Williams.

Chris O’Brien saw an opportunity and a platform to build his profile and brand. He got to be on the radio like Art Bell. Bragging rights mostly. Chris did all the work while Gene reaped all the rewards. Chris seemed genuine but turned a blind eye to Gene. Chris also didn’t have the balls to start his own podcast so he latched onto Gene’s. The left one.

Groggs is just Groggs. A forgettable nobody with a funny accent. Better than having dead air on the radio. And a marginal improvement over Gene’s bad jokes. Certainly didn’t attend the Sean Connery school of voice acting.

Unfortunately every host that’s dealt with Gene has been slimed by his shady behavior. Let’s hope people reconsider before they associate with this scammer. Their reputation will be tarnished forever and Google never forgets.

  93. It’s a shame Steinberg always refuses “toupee” his bills. He always seems to shave by with a hair. Hats off to him if he can get a head of the game. Let’s hope he doesn’t wig-out.

  94. It’s now been proven that Schemey is using several suckers lists to beg from, each with a different solicitation. If you haven’t received an update from Gene it’s probably because you never donated. He’s shaking down the people who were kind enough to give him money in the past. It’s not enough for Gene. He wants MORE!!!!!!!!

    2. And this is someone who bills himself as a technology expert? No wonder the idiot got hacked. What a loser! This alone should be enough to cancel his show. He has absolutely no credibility to speak on technology. Gene, it’s time to log-out.

  95. What proof have we seen that Gene and Barbara are actually living in a motel? They could be using the daily deadlines as a pressure tactic to solicit donations. Putting false deadlines on people to create sympathy. Some of the other sites have put forth this theory and it could be valid.

Don’t fall for Schemey’s tricks. I won’t believe he’s actually living in a motel until I see proof! Don’t give this grifter a dime.

  96. An astute observation by "Erickson" over at the Expanse Forum:

"...his story that he was trying to help his brother in law, until Stephen could obtain a settlement that would repay him, has been shown to be false [my emphasis]; the lifestyle choices over the years were typified by driving an Optima, and when that was repossessed, spending around $14,000 on a new car with a loan for the remaining $14,000 costing him $674 a month; the help he has gotten over the years included a $44,000 personal loan and tens of thousands in commercial loans that were discharged through bankruptcy. Through it all the begging continued and Gene merely bristles when people look closely at the public record."

    1. The whole genesis of Gene’s story has been proven to be false. What more proof do people need? Gene’s entire 15 year income stream of cyber begging is a lie. It’s all based on pure fiction that Gene made up! Case closed.

  97. Gene’s now bitching about his daily hotel deadlines to pay the bill.

Hey asshole that’s because you pay daily. You have enough money to pay the hotel weekly and could get a much cheaper rate but you’re too damn cheap and too much of a scammer to do it!

Gene your self-imposed deadlines aren’t working. No one gives a shit about your pressure tactics or tales of woe. You keep spinning deadlines like it’s a Jerry Lewis telethon.

No one cares about you or your lies anymore. We only care about stopping you from scamming another victim.

I hope you never move out of that hotel room. You can wallow in your daily hell of an existence, twiddling your toupee, and complaining about your pretzel back.

Keep begging and stealing from people and we’ll keep exposing your lies.

Go ahead. Send another e-beg. We dare you!
